Tell me, little butterfly, what would you do for love?

In the wake of a crushing defeat, Tisaanah and Maxatarius have been ripped apart. Tisaanah is desperate to rescue Max from his imprisonment, even as her people’s fight for freedom grows more treacherous. But within the walls of Ilyzath, Max’s mind is a shadow of what it once was… leaving his past a mystery and his future at the mercy of Ara’s new, ruthless queen.

Meanwhile, in the Fey lands, Aefe has been dragged back into this world by a king who vows to destroy civilizations in her name. But even as her past returns to claim her, her former self is a stranger.

Tisaanah, Max, and Aefe are thrust into the center of a cataclysm between the human and Fey worlds. The unique magic they share is key to either winning the war, or ending it.

But that power demands sacrifice. Tisaanah may be forced to choose between love and duty. Max cannot forge his future without confronting his past. And Aefe must decide between reclaiming who she was, or embracing who she has become.

The choices they make will either reshape this world forever…or end it.

In the harrowing finale of the War of Lost Hearts trilogy, a tale of romance, magic, vengeance, and redemption comes to a close — perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Miranda Honfleur, and Danielle Jenson.

Spoilers ahead!*It begins with two souls who find themselves suddenly, utterly alone.*I cannot express how much I enjoyed this series. The conclusion was perfect and I will be reading these books many more times in my life. What an epic end to an unbelievable trilogy.? What I love about this trilogy is that it’s unlike anything I’ve ever read, so it’s difficult to predict what is going to happen. I found myself constantly caught by surprise at the way the characters, world and politics developed. This book was full of intense political intrigue and is the perfect, perfect example of seeing the story from multiple sides. Carissa has created a world full of complexity that is so well fleshed out.? Some of the characters are so complex that I found myself grieving and empathising with the ‘villians’. Every single character was trying to do the best that they could for their people and this made for a compelling and addictive read. The truest form of morally grey, depending whose perspective you are reading from. It was completely heartbreaking to witness the redemption arcs, hopelessness, grief, love and growth of some of these characters.*But I understand him. At times, that seems like cruelest part of this of all. We all feel the same things, and we will still die trying to kill each other for it.*? Tissanah and Max will always have my heart. They are the purest form of soulmates and seeing their progression through the series from friends to lovers was beautiful. The understanding and gentleness between them is the best representation of love I’ve seen since Aelin and Rowan. Their banter is adorable but so are their vulnerable moments.*I looked at Max and saw the love of my life…..He felt the same, every angle and curve and swell of his body falling against mine in a way that felt like home—my home, and gods, I was never leaving, I was never letting go, I would live here, in the scent of him, in the feel of his breath against my chest, forever.**At least we understood each other: I love your scars and hate the person who gave them to you.*? Aefe’s story was heartbreaking. She developed so much through this book and her contribution to the story was perfect. I empathised with her and Caduan so much that it was hard to ever see them as ‘villians.’ All her life, Aefe was used and it took her so long to trust anyone. Her love for Caduan was what brought back her humanity.*You don’t have a choice.” Choice. Choice! I hated that word, hated it the way I hated dreams that never materialized. “I have never had a choice. I have been given the choice to be—to be more than this. I will not be your weapon. Not again. Never.**I could defeat death. I could save him. I refused to lose anything else, least of all something as precious as him. He had brought me back against all impossibilities. I did not care what it meant for the humans. I did not even care what it meant for the Fey. This, I realized, was love. Love was worth destroying for.*These books will be a regular reread for me. I’m so happy with the way that this series ended but I’m so sad to have left this world. I’ll be back!*It ends with two souls who create a future together.*

Mother of Death and Dawn is a very well done final chapter to one of my favorite series. It was my least favorite of the 3 books but still satisfying and worth the read.Starting with what I liked: I thought the first half of the book was very captivating. The introduction of Brayan was great and I also loved seeing more of Threll. For the most part, the characters remain consistent and Max and Tisaanah’s relationship continues to be a highlight. Max and Tisannah are what fictional couples should be like: loving, supportive yet challenging when needed, and treating each other with respect. I love how the characters are strong, but not without weakness and not without emotions. Like the first two, this book is extremely well written and well thought out.Now for what I didn’t like. Though the list does seem slightly longer, I still felt that the good really outweighed the bad.- The Fey-I reviewed the second book and also mentioned this, but I did not like the Fey storyline. It was unexpected after the first book and I wish the series had gone in a direction that didn’t include Fey. None of the Fey characters (Aefe included) were particularly interesting and I would have much rather the story focus on the conflict between Threll, Ara, The Wielders, etc. The parts of the book that focuses on human conflict were *chef’s kiss* the parts with Fey were meh.- Aefe- I never grew to care about, like, or hate Aefe. I don’t think we got to know her enough to care about her. I also hated that she replaced Reshaye. Especially in the first book, I was absolutely intrigued by Reshaye and had a way that I wanted the story line to go in my head. My desired storyline didn’t happen and I was disappointed when Aefe’s story replaced Reshaye. I also felt like Aefe’s development was rushed, but wouldn’t have wanted to read any more about her.- Nura- I love a morally grey character so I really liked Nura in the first two books. She lost a lot of her grey-ness in the final book and wasn’t as interesting to me- Length: Finally, I thought the book was a bit long for what it needed to be. There were a couple false endings and ways it could have been wrapped up earlier. There were a lot of action scenes and other scenes that could have been cut out or shortened and I was very fatigued by the end.Despite the aspects that I didn’t like, this book is still really good and well worth reading. The main characters outweigh any negatives and I’ll be sad to say goodbye to them. Book 1 is by far my favorite but 2 and 3 hold their own.

I’ve read so many stories in the fantasy era that sometimes there is a comforting repetition or expectation to plot resolution – this trilogy surpasses any other that I have read to date! The world building and character arcs were so intense and detailed without the story lagging at any moment. This author stunned me with the ability to make every character seem justified in their own way. The heart breaking moments were too many and cannot be discussed without spoilers. Just know that I cried and prayed for peace and healing for these characters who felt so real to me. I am anticipating a huge book slump since I read the trilogy in one go. Highly recommend this trilogy to anyone who enjoys plot and character driven stories with politics and war woven in. Not to forget beautiful, gut wrenching romantic tragedies!

    Nöjd
Det enda klagomålet är att printet är något snett på framsidan. Men är inget jag bryr mig något om och säkert hade fått byta om jag orkat.Större pocketbok. Skön att hålla i. Mycket bra serie att läsa också!

    A great ending
I usually get bored at some point when I read a serie… it never happened for this one. I couldn’t stop wondering what could possibly happen next and the story was thrilling page after page! I’m a little sad to leave Tisaanah and Max but I’m definitely glad I’ve met them!
