From the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Things We Never Got Over
A nice, normal life. Is that too much to ask? For Riley Thorn it is.
Divorced. Broke. Living with a pack of elderly roommates. And those hallucinations she’s diligently ignoring? Her tarot card-dealing mom is convinced they’re clairvoyant visions.
Just when things can’t get worse, a so-hot-it-should-be-illegal private investigator shows up on her doorstep looking for one of her neighbors…who turns up murdered.
Nick Santiago doesn’t play well with others. Unless the “others” are of the female persuasion. Wink. He’s a rebel, a black sheep, a man who prefers a buffet of options to being stuck with the same entrée every night, if you catch his drift.
When the pretty, possibly psychic Riley lands at the top of the list of suspects, Nick volunteers to find out whodunit. Only because he likes solving mysteries not because he wants to flex his heroic muscles for the damsel in distress.
All they have to do is figure out who pulled the trigger, keep a by-the-book detective with a grudge at bay, and deal with a stranger claiming he was sent to help Riley hone her psychic gifts. All before the killer discovers she’s a loose end that requires snipping.

I laughed out loud many times while reading this novel. Such fun characters and zany situations! I really hope this book is made into a movie. I would watch it multiple times. It’s of a similar flavor to the early Stephanie Plum misadventures. The characters are wonderfully developed. There are a lot of them, and the author is pretty good at keeping them distinct and memorable. The author does an exceptional job building tension, and the climax scene is immersive and sustained so that it is very satisfying. There is great romantic anticipation built-in throughout the story, and the chemistry between the main characters is fantastic and fun. There is healthy intimacy developed between the protagonists. (It’s not just a rush job.)There are realistic setbacks, various bad guy possibilities to keep the reader guessing, most of the characters engage in some form of enjoyable (for the reader) bantering, and there are crazy plot developments to keep the pages turning. The story features a murder (or two), some shootouts, bar fight scenes, references to infidelity, gambling, alcohol consumption, psychic abilities, brief and not too detailed sex scenes, sexual innuendos, and vigilantes with good intentions. But all is done with humor and a sense of adventure. I would recommend this book to adult readers who enjoy romance, detective stories, a bit of woo woo, and a wild caper. So good!

I loved this book. It’s fun, quirky and exciting all at the same time. Riley Thorn is a reluctant psychic, from a long line of gifted women. After the premonition of a murder comes true, she finds herself a suspect. She agrees to partner with a hot private investigator, Nick Santiago, to solve the case and clear her name. With the help of a spiritual guide, Riley’s psychic abilities develop and together with Nick, his team and a few feisty seniors, they solve the murder and expose some pretty unscrupulous people. A very well thought out plot, funny and likable characters, (some of whom are dead) and a little love story to boot, makes for a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Initially I wasn’t too sure if I was gong to like the semi-“flashback” style of this book, but it turned out to be only a tiny “flashback” situation and it was a fantastic story!! I love the main characters and all of Riley’s wacky housemates. There’s plenty of mystery and romance, and lots of action, too. I like this book so much that I’ve already bought the next two in the series. I just finished the second book today and can’t wait to start reading the third one. You don’t necessarily HAVE to read this series in the correct order, but I highly recommend doing that so you can appreciate all the excellent character building/revealing done by the author.

Lucy Score’s “The Dead Guy Next Door” was a great break from the other books I had been reading. A sweet, fun, “cozy mystery” that gave off Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn vibes. Like Riley and Nick, the duo always had perfect comedic timing and great banter. Author Lucy Score incorporates an exciting plot that is not too heavy, easy to read, and romantic. As with the title, there is a mystery to be solved, and it just so happens that Riley is a. However, she’s a bit of a psychic too. Readers will have fun when Nick, the handsome private investigator, and Riley’s eccentric neighbors are added to the mix.“The Dead Guy Next Door” is a bit slower to start than I’m used to, but it does get going once that banter kicks in.

Being able to see/predict the future sounds amazing right? Well for Riley Thorn it is literally the worst. Psychic powers run in her family and no matter how much she tries to suppress it, it isn’t working. All she wants is to be normal. However, her normal is now looking like being a divorcee, broke, and basically living in a nursing home. However, unlike a normal nursing home this one is full of rambunctious, overzealous, sex crazed Medicare supported members. The house gets even crazier when one of the roommates turns up dead and a hotter than hades private investigator Nick shows up. Riley finds herself at the top of the suspect list thanks to her big mouth, and the only way to come off is through her powers. While working with Nick she discovers normal might not be all it’s cracked up to be, and hot tattooed private investigators are great at kissing.I am a self proclaimed Lucy Score lover, and I am almost ashamed to admit that I have been putting this book off for longer than I should have. With it having a psyching almost paranormal aspect to it I didn’t think I would like it, but once again Score proves why I love her so much. This novel is perfection and I finished it in almost 24 hours before binging the rest of the series. Riley and Nick are amazing, but the roommates are what make this book. Mrs. Penny is the perfect side character with her humor and while she isn’t blind I picture her as Alice from Deadpool. This book affirmed for me that Lucy Score can do no wrong and I can’t believe I took this long to dive in.

Tremendous silly fun
What a romp! I wasnt to sure about this book at the onset but what a wonderful, fun investigation. The plot was smart and impossible to predict and the characters developed and grew – like fungus – throughout the book. Great fun, absolutely recommend.

Fantastic Rom Com by Lucy Score!
I absolutely loved this book. It has been a very long time since I laughed so much over a story. Riley is a wonderful heroine. Funny, intelligent, brave and delightfully quirky. Pair her up with one very hot hero and an amazing cast of supporting characters and you have an extremely entertaining read. I hope there is a sequel because I am busting to know what happens next. This was another fantastic read by Lucy Score that I would most definitely recommend.
