About the Author

Alex Irvine’s original fiction, including BUYOUT, A SCATTERING OF JADES, and ANTHROPOCENE RAG, has won numerous awards, hit best-seller lists and been translated into more than a dozen languages.     Fantastic!This book is a must have for any MOTU fan or anyone who appreciates good artwork and package design. This book covers artwork for both Origins and Masterverse from 2020 to 2023. Not all artwork is included which is unfortunate, hopefully there will be a second volume to include all the newest figure artwork.

    Not sure how they missed a bunch of the single carded figures, deluxe king hiss, etc.How come there isn’t an index? Why is it not organized by year and wave?It’s not awful. But could be greater. A volume 2 is obviously likely.

    If you are a fan of MOTU (especially MOTU Origins and Masterverse) you will find lots of great art within. In the basic terms of an 'Art Book', it does just that. It lets the art primarily speak for itself. However, there is very little here in the way of insight behind the artists in here. Good for MOTU completists.There are a few blurbs here and there with some very basic info on the art. Never more than a couple of sentences. And while the artists are named in the credits page (and thanked in the forward) at the very beginning - they are not listed with each piece. This always annoys me. If you have room for the title of the piece, you can list the artist's names.This is a minor quibble as there are only two or three artists for the entire book. I just would have listed their names with each piece. While I know it is all about the art for these toy lines - it made me wish they had images of each of the figures along with the art. I suppose that is being saved for a future volume (The Toys of MOTU Origins and Masterverse).The lack of context past a few blubs is felt most at the very end of the book. It just ends abruptly. No sign-off, no previews of future products, or artwork for canceled items. It just ends on a random shot of Battlecat. Heck, ending with an index would have been nice. Something.Overall, it's okay. The art is great but the book itself is probably the weakest of the Dark Horse MOTU coffee table books. I will give Mattel props for even doing these. I wish we'd see books like this for classic and reimagined toy lines.

    what you'll get is a nice hardcover photo with colorful photos. You can expect some dented corners as Mine looks like it was dropped a few times on the edge. The dents affected several of the photos.
