The core of the movie was the relationship building between Ariel and Eric and it was done beautifully. Both characters felt more fleshed out, multidimensional. They had things in common and were similar to each other, which allowed them to connect on a deeper level and in turn made the relationship more grounded, more organic and overall more profound as Ariel and Eric were kindred spirits as much as they were lovers. Also, the chemistry between Halle and Jonah was splendid. As for the other characters, Melissa was great as Ursula, same goes for David Diggs. Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay did a good job as well (Flounder sounded so cute) and I loved the banter between Sebastian and Scuttle. I really liked Grimsby and him supporting Ariel and Eric’s relationship from the beginning. I also loved the parallels between Eric’s mother, the Queen, and King Triton who both wanted to protect their children from a different world they saw as a threat (granted or not). The last scene between Ariel and her father was very touching and I loved seeing how both parents understood their children in the end…Another great performance was from Jessica Alexander, who played Vanessa, she didn’t have a lot of screen time, but made an impact and really knew how to capitalize on such a short time on screen. She was the perfect actress to play Vanessa. As for the music, The singing and music were amazing, especially Halle Bailey as Ariel. Her voice is just phenomenal (in the movie and live). I am looking forward to see what she does next. Melissa McCarthy also did a great job on Poor Unfortunate Souls and I loved Daveed Diggs’s renditions of Under The Sea and Kiss The Girl. I also loved For The First Time and Wild Uncharted Waters, they were great additions that actually served the story. The Scuttlebutt was fun, I’m sure kids will love it, but really, one of the most amazing part was the orchestra, the scores (wether they had lyrics or not) were breathtaking…The cinematography was also stunning both under the sea and on land. They did a great job recreating marine life which is not an easy task. Honestly, the only things I have to criticize are that the sisters were pretty absent throughout the movie and I would have loved to see more of them (granted, it was quite the same as the cartoon). The other thing is Halle’s wardrobe… I loved both of the dresses she wore, but would have loved to see her in a ballgown, wedding dress, etc.), but I’m being nit picky. To me, this movie was simply fantastic and all the elements to make a great story and give you a “musical feast” were there. What more could I ask for? 10/10

I like when they take a traditional famous cartoon disney movie and bring it to real life especially with the advanced movie technology available today. I absolutely loved the Cinderella movie and Beauty and the Beast. I wasn’t sure about this one but kept an open mind. They DID have to make a few minor alternatives from the original but overall I still liked it very much and gave it a 4/5 only because of the minor changes. For example near the end, they made Ariel the hero by killing the evil Octopus whereas in the original it was Eric. Not a big deal breaker for me. And obviously, Ariel is darker skinned but she did a great job and has the face and features of what Ariel would look like. Still recommended.

    Case broken when arrived

When this movie arrived the top of the case was cracked so that was a big let down. Other than that it’s been working

    Lovely and well-done!
This is another well-done Disney film! The real persons and computer-generated “animations” is itself worth the watch. And Bailey’s singing is both glorious and soothing, and as told the story is ultimately uplifting. If you are very attached to having your fairy-tales excluding brown-skinned people or featuring only them in non-central roles, then this is NOT the film for you. (Fortunately for you, you will still have plenty of other choices out there.) If you couldn’t care less, or you feel that fairy-tales belong to anyone and everyone they speak to, you will very likely enjoy this interpretation. — In fact fairy-tales have been crossing continents and cultures since antiquity. Authors like the Brothers Grimm openly acknowledged they were “collecting” and re-interpreting them in most cases (to suit tastes of their day). Most of us would barely recognize the oldest know Cinderella-type tales, for instance, which are recorded among the Ancient Greeks. Caribbean mermaids tales, too, have been around for a very long. Again, bottom-line: a HIGHLY enjoyable fresh-take (in more than one way) on a familiar tale.

    Beautiful performances
Storyline changed, I did not like all the animation. Would have liked the characters to be more like Melissa’s Ursula. Animation around her.The leads are wonderful. New music good but not the caliber of the original music
